Caring For Your New Tattoo: Do’s and Don’ts

DO:

  1. FOLLOW YOUR ARTISTS ADVICE!!!

There’s a lot of of advice floating around on the internet nowadays, and everybody seems to think that their way is the right way. And, truthfully, there is more than one way to properly and appropriately care for your new tattoo. But the best course of action is to do exactly what your tattoo artist has told you to do.

Lots of studios now are using second-skin style aftercare, like Saniderm or Tegaderm. These are relatively new to the tattoo industry, but adhesive bandages like this have been used in the medical industry for years. They are a really great option, as they provide you with very hands-off, no-fuss aftercare. Saniderm is what you will be provided with when you choose to get tattooed at Samma Charles, in Boston.

DON’T:

  1. Don't pick at scabs or peel the skin. Your tattoo will form scabs during the healing process, which is normal. It's important not to pick at these scabs or peel the skin as this can cause scarring and damage to the tattoo.

  2. Don't scratch or rub the tattoo. It's normal for the tattooed area to feel itchy, but avoid scratching or rubbing the area as this can cause damage to the tattoo

  3. Don't expose the tattoo to direct sunlight or tanning beds. Sun exposure can cause damage to the tattoo and fade the colors. It's important to avoid exposing the tattoo to direct sunlight or tanning beds, especially during the healing process. Even after your tattoo is healed, you need to protect it from the sun. Use lotions with SPF 50!

Proper aftercare is crucial for the healing and longevity of your new tattoo. At Samma Charles, you’ll be provided with an excellent aftercare, and advice on how to use this. Following these dos and don'ts will help ensure that your new tattoo heals properly and looks great for years to come. If you have any questions or concerns about the aftercare process, don't hesitate to reach out to the team at Samma Charles.
